Meaning of Interpreting

Interpreting is the oral rendering of the meaning of the spoken word from one language into another.

Difference between translation and interpreting?

Interpreting must not be confused with translation. Interpretation works with the spoken word and translation works with the written word. Interpreters have little time to process the spoken words and then change them into another language. Translators, on the other hand, have the luxury of being able to think carefully before changing the text of the language that they are reading into another language. Translators generally work into their mother tongue (native language), while interpreters work into and out of their mother tongue.
